20 May 2026, 11:30 - 12:15

For children who lose a parent, trauma can shape development, mental health, and future opportunities.

For girls in particular, access to education is more than learning. It is a powerful pathway to stability, recovery, and long-term resilience.

This talk by Mozhdeh Ghasemiyani and Dr Pamela F Cipriano explores how educating orphaned daughters of nurses not only transforms individual life trajectories but also reflects a shared responsibility within the global nursing community. Through the work of the ICN Girl Child Education Fund, we examine how education can turn loss into possibility.

Mozhdeh Ghasemiyani is a clinical psychologist with nearly two decades of experience in trauma-focused therapy, child development and crisis settings.

Mozhdeh brings both professional expertise and lived understanding to her work on dignity, resilience and long-term opportunity for vulnerable children worldwide.

Dr Pamela Cipriano, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN is the immediate past President of the International Council of Nurses (ICN) and a former President of the American Nurses Association.
