The HIV Story: remembering the HIV/AIDS pandemic

19 May 2026, 17:45 - 18:30

  • Room 1B, ACC Liverpool , Kings Dock , Liverpool Waterfront , Liverpool , L3 4FP
Hosted by the History of Nursing Forum in collaboration with Fellows Co-ordinating Committee, RCN Archive and Museum, and The National HIV Story Trust

The true history of the AIDS pandemic of the 1980s and 90s must not be forgotten.

First-hand stories and experiences of those caring for people affected by AIDS/HIV were collected through oral history interviews. Begun in 2025, this is an ongoing, collaborative outreach project by members of the History of Nursing Forum.

At this presentation a selection of those stories will be shared to illustrate the trials and tribulations, the stigma and fear, and now the hope for the future of those affected.

The session will be of value and interest to all members, be they highly experienced sexual health practitioners, public health nurses, early career nurses and support workers.
