Do you work at Ipswich Hospital or Colchester Hospital? We'll be there from 10 – 11 August to talk to you about job evaluation and the band 5 review in England.
How much do you know about job evaluation, the new national nursing job profiles, and how this affects how much you get paid?
We'll be visiting Ipswich Hospital on 10 August and Colchester Hospital on 11 August to speak to you about all this and more. We'll have stands where you can come and speak to us, as well as presentations to talk you through job evaluation, with the opportunity to ask us about what you can be doing now and what to expect.

Why this matters
Last year, new national nursing profiles were published; these are used as part of the job evaluation process. This, in turn, determines the pay bands for all NHS roles on Agenda for Change contracts.
Your job description is a crucial part of this and needs to be an accurate reflection of your role.
The government has instructed NHS employers in England to review every band 5 job description, but this is just the start. All nursing jobs should be reviewed or have recently undergone a review against these new profiles – no matter which band you’re on.
This is your opportunity to speak to us and highlight your concerns so you feel empowered to engage with the job evaluation process.

Who will I be able to speak to?
During our visits, in addition to our staff and representatives, you'll be able to meet the Pay Delivery Officer for your region.
Eastern Pay Delivery Officer Steve Haynes
Steve is the Pay Delivery Officer for the Eastern region, supporting the RCN's Know Your Worth campaign. He has worked at the RCN for five years and brings extensive experience in employment relations, negotiation and workplace representation. He holds the TUC Diploma in Employment Law and the ACAS Certificate in Workplace Mediation.
Steve has specialist knowledge of the NHS Job Evaluation Scheme and has supported members to secure accurate job descriptions and fair evaluation of their roles, delivered training, and worked with NHS employers to improve local policies and processes. His successful outcomes include a group of members receiving an increased pay band and over two years' back pay.
Before joining the RCN, Steve worked at the British Medical Association during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Steve said: "It doesn't matter at what level of nursing you work; fundamentally, you're selling your labour. The price you're paid for the level of work you deliver is determined by a contractual job evaluation process. If you think you're working above what you're being paid for, check your job description, get your matched job report, and read the RCN's Know Your Worth guidance. I'd encourage every member to think about what the quality of patient care will be like in 10 years if we don't act now."
