Building connections, creating communities
RCN retired members represent a vital connection to the RCN’s legacy, values, and collective experience.
Join us online or in-person on Tuesday 6 October, from 10.00 – 16.00 for this one-day, interactive conference to revitalise activism among retired nurses and strengthen your voice within and beyond the RCN.
This event aims to enable retired members and those approaching retirement to develop organising skills and confidence to establish and grow local retired members' groups, creating stronger connections and networks that support collective action on issues affecting retired nursing professionals, as individuals and as a group.
Our retired members are the backbone of the RCN’s history - and essential for our future.
🎯Learning outcomes
- Recognise and understand the collective identity, strengths and influence of retired nursing professionals as a distinct constituency within the RCN and wider health and care landscape.
- Develop an understanding of key organising skills, including community mapping, issue identification, relationship-building and network development, to support effective activism and engagement.
- Begin to create local action plans that apply organising skills and approaches to build connections, strengthen communities, and address issues that matter to retired members

Who should attend?
This event is open to all retired or retiring RCN members, particularly:
• Newly retired members looking to stay connected.
• Members interested in activism post-retirement.
• Retired nurses eager to support the activism and advocacy of members still working
• We are also happy to welcome members soon to be retired.
🚂Travel
If joining in-person, travel will be booked on your behalf, in line with RCN expenses policy. Please enter your travel details where prompted on the registration form.
Online attendance
Please note online attendance is capped. Following registration a member of the team will email you to confirm your place or notify you have been added to the wait list if the maximum has been reached.

20 Cavendish Square is located behind John Lewis, Oxford Street.
Visitor car parking
Q-Park Oxford Street is an underground car park situated underneath Cavendish Square. You can pre-book your parking by visiting the Q-Park website.
Tube
The nearest stations are Oxford Circus and Bond Street.
Bus
There are many buses routes that stop nearby, including the 10, 25, 55, 73, 98 and 390.
Air
London has five major airports: London City, London Gatwick, London Heathrow, London Luton and London Stansted.

London Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports have dedicated express train services into central London.

London Heathrow and City airports are directly connected to the Tube network.

Travel
If you requested travel upon registration, you should be in receipt of your travel confirmations/e-tickets. If you have not received this or require them to be re-sent please contact rcnevents@rcn.org.uk
If you live locally and opted to arrange your own short train/tube journeys, please retain receipts and request a travel expense claim form from the events team.
Registration
Registration is from 10am. On arrival, please make your way to the RCN registration desk which will be clearly signposted. You will be issued with conference materials, including a programme and a name badge. Refreshments will be available through-out registration which takes place in the Council room.

Lunch and refreshments will be served at the time specified in the programme. If you have any specific dietary requirements and did not include these in your registration information, please inform us in advance so we can ensure your needs are catered for.

How to join
This event will be held on MS Teams.
An email will been sent with the joining link and instructions on 29 Sept and 5 Oct.
The day includes interactive roundtables, you will automatically be allocated to virtual-breakout rooms to participate.
Note. For virtual attendees, please join MS Teams at 10.25am ready for opening remarks at 10.30am.
