Proposed Changes to Pre-Registration Programmes: Nursing, Nursing Associate and Midwifery Courses

The NMC are conducting a 10-week consultation to hear informed and useful views from a wide variety of stakeholders on their draft programme standards. The programme standards set out how nursing and midwifery courses should be delivered to ensure that programmes leading to registration are fit for purpose.

Some of the current standards reflect EU law. But as the UK has left the EU, the NMC now have full responsibility for setting these standards themselves and have made some draft changes considering that.

The purpose of this consultation event is to facilitate an opportunity for a discussion about the proposed changes and to offer you an opportunity to share your views. We aim to engage as many members as students and members directly involved in or concerned with pre-registration nursing programmes, across the four fields of nursing. We will ensure our group is representative of the four nations of the UK and offer a diversity of views from members with different protected characteristics.

The RCN will summarise your feedback and submit our members feedback to the NMC, which will allow them to refine, change or amend the draft proposals, before taking them to Council to be finalised.

We have developed a questionnaire that will only take 15 minutes and is open until midnight on 14th August. The link is:
