AGM
Cumbria Branch AGM is scheduled to take place between 1.00pm – 2.30pm. The branch will ask members present to approve its plan for 2026, ratify its local reps for a further year, and elect a branch committee for 2026.
Make a difference in your local area
You are welcome to express an interest in taking on a branch executive committee role. There are a series of webinars coming up aiming to attract under-represented members into voluntary/ governance roles in the RCN, and we are planning a webinar on what's involved for 19 August so if you're at all curious about what the role might involve, you're welcome to attend one of those - look out on our Facebook page or events listings page for dates and details.
In the meantime, you can read the branch role descriptor poster to find out a bit more about the three core branch roles of chair, secretary and treasurer.
Cumbria Branch is looking for members to fill the following positions for 2026: president, chair, secretary, treasurer, and two branch executive members. The terms of office for all of these positions is 1 January 2026 until 31 December 2026.
Interested members need to express their interest in writing by email before the deadline of 8 September. Please note governance rules state that written expressions of interest must take precedence over verbal expressions of interest made on the day of the AGM.
Adding a string to your bow by joining the executive committee will add to your knowledge, skills, confidence, experience, and employability. You will have access to people, events, and learning that you would otherwise not have been party to, and some people find this experience incredibly enriching. Do please think about it and email northern.region@rcn.org.uk by Monday 8 September 2025 identifying which seat you are interested in standing for, for which branch and why you would be good at the role.
Your chance to influence at our MP meeting
There will then be a half-hour break followed by a meeting with Carlisle MP Julia Minns, which will take place between 3.00pm and 3.30pm.
Julie Minns is keen to hear about what it's like to work in nursing at the moment. This is your chance to tell her about the realities of your working life and persuade her to advocate on nursing's behalf.
Don't miss out. Julie Minns attended the original 'Scrap the Cap' protest in Parliament Square around 10 years ago, so she is sympathetic to the nursing cause and may be a good advocate to get on board.
