Compassionate leadership requires people to listen, understand, empathise and support others. This enables everyone to feel valued, included and encouraged, so they can reach their full potential and do their best at work. The Compassionate Leadership programme is designed to support you apply compassionate leadership to Health and Social Care practice.
Suitable for health care staff working in any sector, including NHS or independent health and social care. Primarily aimed at Health Care Support Workers, though open to all.About this programme
This unit introduces the principles of Compassionate Leadership for Health and Social Care in Wales (2020) and will equip participants to identify and apply these principles to deliver an inclusive, engaged, sustainable, flexible and responsive workforce in health and social care. This unit also covers the aims of A Healthier Wales (2019).
This programme consists of two taught days, which will be delivered online. In addition to this there will be self-directed learning, and an assessment which must be completed and passed, to receive a certificate of completion.
Successful completion of the unit will gain you 2 academic credits at Level 3, accredited by Agored Cymru.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand the compassionate leadership principles and the rationale for their development.
- Understand good practice in relation to leadership within Health and Social Care
- Be able to apply compassionate leadership to Health and Social Care practice.

Who is this programme suitable for?

This programme is open to both RCN members and non-members.
On successful completion of the programme you will gain 2 credits at Level 3.
Technology access: All applicants will need access to a laptop or tablet with camera and microphone capability. Use of a mobile phone only will not be suitable.
Programme dates
This unit will be delivered online, over 2 days, one day per week for 2 weeks, on the following dates:
- Day 1 - Wednesday 4 February 2026, 9.30am – 4.30pm
- Day 2 – Wednesday 11 February 2026, 9.30am – 4.30pm
There will also be additional self-directed learning and an assessment.

£180 + VAT per person (£216 inc. VAT)

Phone bookings can be made by telephoning our RCN Events Registration team on 02920 546460 (Mon - Fri, 9.30am - 4.30pm).
You can also download and complete a booking form via the 'Download booking form' button above. Payments can be made via credit card/Maestro, invoice (purchase order required), or BACS.
To pay by invoice you must send all of the below to eventsreg@rcn.org.uk
- A copy of the Purchase Order document from your organisation or company (we cannot process your order without it)
- Your Finance department/accounts payable contact email address to receive an electronic copy of the invoice from us
- A completed RCN Events Booking Form for each delegate in the booking.
Once the invoice has been raised, you will then receive confirmation of your delegate booking on the event requested. Invoices are to be paid within 30 days of the invoice being issued.
Cancellation policy:
Cancellations received up to one week before the start of the event (Wednesday 28 January 2026) will be refunded, minus a £25 administration fee. No refunds can be processed after this date.
Places can be substituted with the prior knowledge and agreement of RCN Events.

For the purposes of registration, we will need to create a Unique Learner Number (ULN) for you, and share some of your personal data with the Learning Records Service (LRS), who issue the Unique Learner Numbers. RCN Events take no responsibility for non-refundable travel/accommodation in the case of a changed programme or cancelled event

All bookings will be confirmed in writing.
You will not be registered for this event unless payment accompanies your application. Places cannot be held provisionally.
The RCN reserves the right to refuse any booking at any time.
