Developments in Mental Health policy and its implications for the mental health workforce

This event aims to provide an update on the strategic direction of mental health care in Wales, and to discuss the major implications for those working in mental health.
This masterclass event is aimed at those who work in mental health in any sector, who are interested in strategic development of the services. All roles in the team are welcome to attend, including registered nurses, health care support workers and nursing students, people with lived experience, and other health care professionals.
Learning outcomes:
- Understand the strategic priorities in the Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy for Wales (2025–2035).
Explore how policy developments aim to improve service integration, prevention, and person-centred care.
- Assess the implications of current policy changes for mental health practice, including legal, ethical, and professional responsibilities.
• Reflect on how these changes affect clinical decision-making and advocacy and the role of nurses in safeguarding patient rights.
- Identify challenges and opportunities for people working in mental health, arising new policy reforms, with a focus on interprofessional collaboration, lived experience and service transformation.
• Explore the impact of policy on recruitment, retention, and training of mental health professionals and discuss strategies for supporting staff wellbeing.
This event can contribute to participatory learning, which can be used for revalidation.
The event is taking place place in-person at RCN Wales headquarters in Cardiff. Refreshments will be available but please note lunch is not provided. Unfortunately this event will not be available to join online.

Unfortunately we are currently unable to take online bookings for Career Break members, non-member Health Care Support Workers and supporting health roles and non-member Nursing Students. Cancellations:
Cancellations received before 5pm on Tuesday 14 October 2025 will be refunded (if applicable), minus a 25% administration fee. No refunds can be processed after this date. Places can be substituted with the prior knowledge and agreement of RCN Events.
RCN Events take no responsibility for non-refundable travel/accommodation in the case of a changed programme or cancelled event.
