Your branch is holding a follow-up AGM after attendance at the last one wasn't quorate, meaning they were unable to pass the business of the meeting. This is an opportunity to influence your branch's future - elect your branch executive team for next year, ratify your local RCN reps, review the year and help plan for next year.
AGM
Cumbria Branch AGM is scheduled to take place between 10.00am – 12.00pm. The branch team will ask members present to approve a plan for 2026, ratify local reps for a further year, and elect a branch committee for 2026.
Make a difference to RCN members in your local area
You are welcome to express an interest in taking on a branch executive committee role. If you're at all curious about what the role might involve, you can read the branch role descriptors to find out a bit more about the three core branch roles of chair, secretary and treasurer and if you think any of your colleagues may be interested, you could display this branch role descriptor poster at work.
Cumbria Branch is looking for members to fill the following positions for 2026: president, chair, secretary, treasurer, and two branch executive members. The terms of office for all of these positions is 1 January 2026 until 31 December 2026.
Interested members should express their interest in writing by email before the deadline of 21 October. If nobody does this, then failing that, then verbally at the meeting is also fine. Please note governance rules state that written expressions of interest must take precedence over verbal expressions of interest made on the day of the AGM.
Adding a string to your bow by joining the executive committee will add to your knowledge, skills, confidence, experience, and employability. You will have access to people, events, and learning that you would otherwise not have been party to, and some people find this experience incredibly enriching. Do please think about it and email northern.region@rcn.org.uk by Tuesday 21 October 2025, identifying which seat you are interested in standing for, for which branch and why you would be good at the role.
Tell other RCN members
Let other members know that this is happening. Nobody reads all their emails these days; it wouldn't be physically possible to keep up with the avalanche of communication that passes through the average inbox in the 21st century. If you're lucky enough to have caught wind of this AGM, please let the others know about it. There's strength in numbers and your union is stronger if your workplace team of RCN members is a close-knit one. You can put this poster up at work to remind everyone of the date, and reach the members you can't catch up with personally in conversation.
