Bookings can be made by phone with payment by credit card/Maestro, by calling +44 (0)2920 546460. Lines are open from 9.30am - 4.30pm Monday to Friday.
Bookings can also be made via email with a downloaded booking form with credit card details or payment/remittance advice emailed to eventsreg@rcn.org.uk.
All bookings will be confirmed in writing.
You will not be registered for this event unless payment accompanies your application. Places cannot be held provisionally.
The RCN reserves the right to refuse any booking at any time.

To pay by invoice you must send all of the below to eventsreg@rcn.org.uk
- A copy of the Purchase Order document from your organisation or company (we cannot process your order without it).
- Your Finance department/accounts payable contact email address to receive an electronic copy of the invoice from us.
- A completed RCN Events Booking Form for each delegate in the booking.
Once the invoice has been raised, you will then receive confirmation of your delegate booking on the event requested. Invoices are to be paid within 30 days of the invoice being issued.

Chair: Dr Vanessa Field
Dr Vanessa Field is Deputy Director of the National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC) and Consultant in Travel Medicine at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases (HTD) in London, UK.
She is a member of the travel sub-group of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) PHEIC IHR Polio Committee, and of the Professional Education Committee of the International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM). She sits on the editorial board of Travel Medicine and Infectious Diseases and Journal of Travel Medicine.
Chair: Sandra Grieve RGN RM BSc (Hons) Dip.Trav.Med. FFTM RCPS(Glasg) FISTM
Sandra is an independent travel health specialist nurse. Her professional interest moved from midwifery to travel medicine in 1991, moving from clinical practice to an educational role in 2006.
Since 2000, Sandra has been an active forum member of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), holding several offices. She is travel health lead for the RCN public health forum (PHF), representing the RCN on travel health related issues nationally and internationally, and presenting a travel health perspective for policy making. She represents the RCN on the Steering Group and Scientific Committee of the Northern European Conference on Travel Medicine (NECTM), a biennial conference focused on education for travel health practitioners and is a previous Steering Group chair and co-chair.
Sandra is active in several travel medicine bodies. She is a member of the Leadership Council and chair of the International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM) Publications Oversight Committee (POC), an ISTM Fellow and a Fellow of the Faculty of Travel Medicine (FTM), RCPS (Glasg). She has acted as an examiner in travel health Diploma courses in Glasgow and Liverpool.
Sandra remains involved in developing guidance for nurses in travel health services and supports nurses from other countries aiming to develop similar guidance. The competencies are primarily aimed at nurses in the UK but applicable to travel health professionals worldwide. The fourth edition was published in 2023 along with the third edition of female genital mutilation (FGM) guidance for nurses in travel health services. Sandra enjoys sharing best practice through these publications and education and encourages collaboration with nurses around the world to support their practice.
She enjoys writing, and reviewing articles, organising and attending travel health conferences, gathering and disseminating related information and forging links with nurses in travel health practice globally.
Dr Dipti Patel MBBS FRCP FFOM FFTM RCPS (Glasg) LLM OBE Dr Dipti Patel is a consultant in occupational medicine and in travel medicine. She is Director of the National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC), and the Chief Medical Officer at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). She is also an honorary lecturer in Population Health, Health Services Research and Primary Care within the School of Health Sciences at Manchester University. She is a member of the UK Advisory Committee on Malaria Prevention, the Travel Subcommittee of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation, and the WHO International Travel and Health Guideline Development Group. Dipti is an associate editor for Travel Medicine and Infectious Diseases, New Microbes and New Infections, and co-editor of the ABC of Occupational and Environmental Medicine Previous roles include being a Non-Executive Director at the Health Protection Agency, the Director of Clinical Services at the Medical Advisory Service for Traveller’s Abroad, and Consultant in Occupational Medicine at the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
Katherine Russell Katherine Russell is a Consultant Epidemiologist and leads the UKHSA Emerging Infections and Zoonoses (EIZ) team. She trained as a medical doctor before working in microbiology and virology, and then specialising in public health medicine. Before taking up her role in the EIZ team, where she has worked on a range of outbreaks including Ebola, Marburg, Lassa, COVID-19, mpox, and diphtheria, she worked on the surveillance and response to emerging infections and zoonotic diseases in Africa, the Caribbean, Asia and the Pacific islands. Katherine has been the national public health lead for rabies for the past eight years.
Becky Swadling Becky is an independent Travel Health Specialist Nurse with over 24 years of experience in the field. She completed the Diploma in Travel Medicine in 2006 and the Royal College Advanced Certificate in Clinical Education in November 2023. She is a fellow of the BGTHA, was Editor of the BGTHA Journal, and Module Lead on the Post Graduate Diploma in Travel Medicine (RCSPG). She has extensive experience of working in and managing busy private travel clinics. She currently works to support Boots Travel Service, reviews and writes PGDs for Nomad/MASTA clinics and is a member of the Takeda expert steering committee (Dengue Coalition). She regularly develops and delivers Travel Health training to health professionals. She also continues to travel as often as possible with her two daughters.
Carsten Schade Larsen MD, DMSc, DTMH, FFTM RCPS, CTHTM Senior Consultant and Associated Professor, Department of Infectious Diseases, Aarhus University Hospital, Denmark Medical Director, European LifeCare Group in Denmark Carsten Schade Larsen is an infectious disease specialist and since 2004 he has been employed as a senior consultant and associate professor at Dept. of Infectious Diseases, Aarhus University Hospital, working in the field of HIV, primary immunodeficiencies, parasitic and imported infections. He has a special interest in travel medicine and vaccines and is site-director for GeoSentinel Center Aarhus, fellow of the International Society of Travel Medicin (ISTM), Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (RCPSG), Faculty of Travel Medicine (FTM) and chair of the Danish Society of Travel Medicine. He has arranged numerous courses in travel medicine and travelled to sixty countries in the world. Since 2019 he has been medical director for European LifeCare Group, who has around 47 vaccine clinics in Denmark. His has authored over 200 papers and several book chapters in the field of infectious diseases, HIV, primary immunodeficiencies, vaccines and travel medicine.
Dr Natalie Prevatt Natalie is a Consultant paediatrician in London specially trained in Tropical and Travel Medicine. She runs an NHS travel clinic for children with complex health issues such as immune deficiency and allergies. She sees other patients in her private remote telephone based clinic where parents of well children are mostly concerned about using antimalarials and vaccines off licence.
