RCN South Birmingham AGM and learning event: Let's talk anti-racism
15 Oct 2025, 14:30 - 16:30
Choose event information:
All RCN South Birmingham members are invited to attend their Annual General Meeting, which is being held in person and online via Microsoft Teams. The meeting will also incorporate a learning session on anti-racism.
Learning event: Let’s talk anti-racism
In 2023, RCN Congress voted that the Royal College of Nursing should be an anti-racist and anti-discriminatory organisation, actively transforming the unequal social and workplace relations that shape our interactions. Anti-racism means actively opposing racism by advocating for changes that promote racial equity in society.
As part of Black History Month, we are delighted to welcome a special guest speaker who will support an interactive learning event on anti-racism.
Presented by Sophie Ford, the RCN’s Equity and Inclusion Lead, the session will give you the chance to:
- Gain knowledge and understanding of anti-racism and its relevance in healthcare
- Explore the role of the RCN in advancing racial equity and inclusion
- Share and reflect on personal or workplace experiences in a safe space
- Learn from colleagues and the facilitator through open discussion and Q&A
- Identify practical steps you can take to challenge racism and promote equity in your role
This is a fantastic opportunity to deepen your understanding, broaden your perspective, and engage meaningfully with colleagues on how we can collectively advance anti-racism and inclusion.
Branch Annual General Meeting
If you're new to the RCN and this is your first AGM, please get involved. Your participation is vital — whether you come to learn, to listen, or to influence the next steps for your local branch, it's a great way to meet colleagues and other RCN members.
The meeting and learning event are being held in person, with the option for members to join online if they prefer.
To register your attendance, please book your place here. Once you have registered, you will receive a confirmation email, which includes the link to join the Microsoft Teams meeting on the day if you are intending to attend online. If you want to attend in person, simply go to the venue. Please try to arrive 15 minutes before the start of the event.
Could you help lead the branch?
If you're interested in getting more involved in the work of the branch, why not consider standing for one of the branch committee posts, which includes branch chair, secretary and treasurer? Please read the RCN governance branch role descriptions for these roles to check your eligibility and capacity.
Being a branch committee member is a great personal and professional development opportunity. You can nominate yourself for a position on the committee for 2026 by completing the nomination form before the AGM.
